I heard Ebony for the first time recently in Southampton. Purchased Disco Lasers and really haven't stopped listening to it. It has an ethereal quality to it. A simplistic comparison would be to London Grammar. However, I would say this is much more in the vain of Aimee Mann lyrically. Not sure if it is a concept album. However, many of the songs deal with separation and longing to be together again. Listen to that voice on the best equipment that you can.

Hello?
Where's your signal?
I thought we had agreed
you would reach me here as soon as I arrived
Is 52 ok?
Hello?
Are you out there?
There is no sign of your call
and I need to let you know that I survived
Is 52 ok?
Please get back to me
Did I miss-remember the frequency
Or were our calculations not right
I'm here in the place I said I would be
and I cannot believe this sight.
This sight.
This world is full of wonder.
Hello?
Where is the sound of you
It's so beautiful out here
And I want to tell you everything's alright
Hello?
Helloooooo?
There are other voices calling
But I can't seem to connect to the right line.
Please get back to me
Did I miss-remember the frequency
Or were our calculations not right
What use is recording all that I see
If there's no one to read what I write?
What I write.
This world is full of wonder
Hello?
If you're hearing me
I have made my last report now
and I'm going to explore further out

Once there was a planet
who believed she was a star.
What an embarrassing mistake to make.
She'd been floating around,
being shiny and loud
till she bobbed past The sun
and did a d-double take.
Turns out, she was in his orbit.
And not only that,
there were satellites starting to land
on her back.
And so this little planet
who believed she was a star
had a sudden and very rude awakening.
She'd been floating around,
being shiny and loud,
till she realised she was
part of The Solar System.
If only she'd not been so distracted
by the lights of The Milky Way.
And the vastness of Space
well it made her heart race
and she thought she was free
to do as she pleased.
But turns out, she was in his orbit.
And not only that...
There were satellites starting to land
on her back.
To discover the origins of
her life-giving gas.
So that they could go back home
and do some more math.
Who remembers the day they came
Who remembers the way
They crawled out through cracks of light.
Who remembers the way they smiled
Who remembers the day
They took all the children away.
And the lies they told
And their hearts were cold
And the stars looked on
But they’re almost gone
Mother Father help me now.
I don’t remember the day they came
I don’t remember the way
They crawled in and took me away
And the lies they told
And their hearts were cold
And the stars looked on
But they’re almost gone
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
I’ve only seen the pictures
That they let me see
I only speak the words
That they gave to me.
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
Mother Father help me now
And the stars looked on
But they’re almost gone
Away.
He met her in the wild, in the wild, in the wild
And he loved her.
He was only just a child oh a child oh a child
When he heard her cry
She was standing as the waves, oh the waves, of the waves
Crashed about her
And the wind whipped at her face of her face oh her face
And he heard her cry.
And the years when rolling by, rolling by, rolling by
He grew older
And he took for him a wife, oh a wife, of his wife
She was sweet and fair
And she gave to him a child, oh a child, oh a child
And he loved them
But at night he heard the sound, oh the sound of the wild
And he heard her cry.
Save me from this silent ocean
Save me from the deep.
Save me from this silent ocean
Save me from the deep.
Tiptoe at night he vanished out the back door
Down cross the pebbles to where the ocean meets the shore
Stood in the waves and he screamed out her name
But he couldn’t make a sound, it was swallowed by the wind.
Save me from this silent ocean
Save me from the deep.
Save me from this silent ocean
Save me from the deep.
Here I dream I am immortal
A lonely soldier pushing stars across the sky
Looking down upon the earth I fought for
Moving mountains just to kill the time.
Ahh
Till I met a man that I could love
I hid my feathered wings and let him find me
If I had a heart it would have stopped
The moment that I held his gaze
Ahh
And all the gods sent their mighty voices
It cannot happen now they said
It cannot be.
The air I breathe is not for his lungs.
And so I travelled to the ancient realm
Where all living things must one day return
Ahh
I fought the furies and I bared my grief
But Hades turned his face away
Ahh
And all the gods sent their mighty voices
It cannot happen now they said
It cannot be.
I took him in my arms
But I flew too high
And they tore at us till we were in pieces
Falling from the sky in to the sea.
Oh Let him be Poseidon
For though I cannot swim
I would give my wings for him to be Poseidon
Let him be Poseidon
For though I cannot swim
I would give my wings for him to be Poseidon
Let him be Poseidon
For though I cannot swim
I would give my wings for him to be Poseidon
Let him be Poseidon
For though I cannot swim
I would give my wings for him to be Poseidon
So I never have to watch him fall away again.
Wild Woman, come to my door
tell me a secret, one, maybe more
ask me what I am doing with all
the gifts that you gave me
the last time you saw me.
Old Woman, come to my home
peer in the windows and find me alone
eating a meal from the food I have grown
in the way that you taught me
the last time you saw me.
Have I changed at all?
Have I grown up tall?
Strange Woman, hold me so close
don't let me stray from the path that I chose
keep me in line with your two one-eyed crows
you sent here to watch me
the last time you saw me.
Have I changed at all?
Have I grown up tall?
am I improved by the gifts that you gave me
the way that you taught me
your crows that you sent me
the last time you saw me?
The next time I see you I'll not let you go.
I'll shutter the windows and bar all the doors.
They never will open, until you agree
to spend the rest of your days with me.
Wild Woman, come to my door
tell me a secret, one, maybe more
ask me what I am doing with all
the gifts that you gave me
the last time you saw me.
Wild Woman please, I beg you to stay with me.
Oh hello,
I’ve been waiting for you to arrive
I’ve been waiting for you to arrive
You took your time
You took your time
I wasn’t sure you’d ever come back
I wasn’t sure you’d ever come home
To me.
(Don’t tell me you didn’t miss me too
I missed you I don’t know who I am without you
Who I am without you.
Don’t tell me you didn’t miss me too.)
You took your time.
You took your time.
You made me wait.
I’ve been waiting for you to arrive
I’ve been watching the world go on outside
They say don’t panic it will happen
If you let it, it will happen
But I panicked I thought you were gone for good
I thought you were gone for good
I thought you were gone for good.
I thought you were gone for good.
I thought you were gone for good.
I thought you were gone for good.
Watching all the birds outside my window made me realise that I don’t know if I am anything
without you by my side.
The little stars were in their sky safe.
The little stars were in their sky safe.
Or so we thought.
Or so we thought.
Or so we thought.
The little stars were in their sky safe.
The little stars were in their sky safe.
Or so we thought.
Or so we thought.
Or so we thought.
If we took out all the pieces
and we laid them in a line
and examined them from up and down
and also side by side
would we see they didn't fit
the way we'd figured all this time?
The little stars couldn't see what was coming
The little stars, they couldn't see what was coming at all.
or so we thought
or so we thought
or so we thought.
If we took out all the pieces
and we put them in a row
we would see they didn't correlate
with the rate of growth.
The widths were in the wrong place
the sizing was all off
if we took out all the pieces
we would see the thing had stopped.
Oh, my dear.
The little stars couldn't see what was coming
The little stars, they couldn't see what was coming at all.
or so we thought
or so we thought
or so we thought.
This is my fear
I won’t be brave enough to hold you near
I won’t be warm enough when it gets colder And you look at me for answers
And I don’t feel older
This is my fear
I won’t be bold enough to hold you near
I won’t be warm enough when it gets colder And you look at me for answers
And I'm not much older
And I won’t cope
I won’t cope
With the mornings and the nights you need
And I won’t see
I won’t see
Past my shadow and my swollen greed
But they’re sending Disco Lasers into outer space To find a better future for the human race
And there might be something
Hiding in the sands of Mars
and I hope you’ll love the stars
This is my fear
I won’t be good enough to hold you near
But I’ll try to be better
I’ll try to be great
I’ll try to put you forward
So that life will make you
Bold and adoring
Free and uncanny
Lovely and golden
Warm and unending
And they’re sending Disco Lasers into outer space To find a better future for the human race
And there might be something
Hiding in the sands of Mars
and I hope the when you get here
You will see the stars like I do
Like I do
Like I do
I hope you’ll love the stars like I do
Like I do
Like I do
I hope you’ll love the stars.
Skin will turn to wings if you let it Skin will turn to wings if you let it Skin will turn to wings if you let it Skin will turn to wings if you let it
Thank you for always having my back
I gotta let you go.
Thank you for always holding my hand
It wasn’t easy no.
How am I gonna survive
Without you by my side
How am I gonna survive.
Thank you for always holding my tight
And saying “it’s alright”.
But when you said “don’t go out there”
I thought you were right.
How am I gonna survive
Without you by my side
How am I gonna survive.
Thank you for always telling me
I had something to give
Thank you for always showing me
I was worth it.
How am I gonna survive
Without you by my side
How am I gonna survive.
I’m standing at the edge of the world
And I hear you calling out to me
“Come on come back
Don’t go out there”
I gotta go
That’s where I can be all me.
I gotta go, I gotta go
I’m leaving now, I’m leaving now
I’m leaving you, I’m leaving you behind.
I’m leaving you, I’m leaving you behind now.
Goodbye now.

A beautiful and haunting EP. I hope Marjana continues to produce material like this, in addition to her work in iamthemorning and the newly-formed Maer collaboration with Anna Murphy. Eleventh Earl of Blah
Burbling beneath the hazy beauty of the debut solo record from Lush co-founder Emma Anderson is razor-sharp wit and a heart full of rage. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2023
On this harmonically rich LP, the Scottish singer-songwriter contrasts gorgeous soprano harmonies with strident folk-rock instrumentation. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 26, 2023
Wonderful, beautiful, densely layered music. I'm glad I gave this album several headphone listens before commenting. It did not immediately strike a chord with me, but the more I listened the more I began to understand and appreciate how fantastically rich and deep the sound is. For fans of atmospheric and melodic prog, this is an excellent addition. Bass and drum work are exquisite! paliojen_black
